Allan Lockhart is third generation horseman. He was a kid on the backside and in the grandstands of Suffolk Downs when he mother, Lorie, was a top trainer with Ask Queenie, the stakes horse that had been bred on the Lockhart farm. Her father, Allan's grandfather, is a revered elder statesman of the Thoroughbred business in Massachusetts.
This interview was done a day after the Massachusetts Gaming Commission decided against giving a casino license to Mohegan Sun and thus endangers the future of Suffolk Downs, an almost eighty-year old track right outside of Boston.
Allan has gone to college, plans to get his Masters in business, and will survive, though it's likely he will have to move away from his home and family. After this meet ends, he'll try Finger Lakes in New York and then decide where he goes from there.
