Ricky Tucker learned horse shoeing from his then father-in-law and has had a successful thirty year career working with Thoroughbreds at racetracks in Massachusetts, ncluding Suffolk Downs until days before this interview.
Like many others, Ricky is dismayed by the decision of the Racing Commission not to give the casino license to Mohegan Sun which will almost inevitably result in closing Suffolk Downs. He will soon have to leave for Tampa to follow his clients, rather than stay at home in Massachusetts for the winter and meet them when they return in the spring. He is extremely articulate about his profession as well as his frustration with the loss of this Thoroughbred racetrack, the last in Massachusetts, and the many jobs of backside workers, including his. After all these years, he's forced to start over.
